The New York Yankees today announced the club’s 2013 spring training schedule, featuring a total of 33 spring training games with 17 home games at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
The Yankees will play their first spring game on February 23 at 1:05 p.m. against Atlanta at Champion Stadium in Lake Buena Vista. The Yankees will host their first Major League spring home game the next day, February 24 at 1:05 p.m. vs. Toronto.
Due to the playing of the World Baseball Classic tournament, the 2013 spring schedule begins nine days earlier than last year, and marks the earliest start to the Yankees’ spring training game schedule in at least 65 years.
In addition to 16 Grapefruit League games, the Yankees will also play host to the Dominican Republic World Baseball Classic team on Wednesday, March 6 at Steinbrenner Field.
Home opponents include each of the Yankees’ four American League East rivals – Tampa Bay (March 24 at 1:05 p.m.), Boston (March 20 at 1:05 p.m.), Toronto (February 24 at 1:05 p.m. and February 28 at 1:05 p.m.) and Baltimore (March 27 at 1:05 p.m.). The schedule also features four home night games (7:05 p.m. start time): Atlanta on Tuesday, March 5; Philadelphia on Wednesday, March 13; Minnesota on Thursday, March 21 and new American League opponent Houston on March 26.
